Explore museums dedicated to the work of one artist
June 21, 2024
Single-artist museums give you the opportunity to deep dive into an artist’s career – witnessing the evolution of work throughout their lifetime. A chance to truly understand their artistic techniques, and individual creative approach.
To celebrate the recent addition of The Andy Warhol Museum’s guide on Bloomberg Connects, we’re shining a light on a few museums that are dedicated to the life and work of one artist.
The Andy Warhol Museum
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US
Let’s start with the most recent addition to the app, the Andy Warhol Museum is in Pittsburgh, where the world-famous artist was born.
You probably already know Andy Warhol’s work. He’s the face of the Pop Art movement and has produced some of the most recognizable pieces of art in the 20th century. He created an abundance of artwork with iconic pieces depicting Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Coca-Cola bottles and Campbell’s Soup cans. These are stand-out examples of how he combined fine art with mainstream culture.
As The Andy Warhol Museum houses the largest collection of work of the artist, it’s the best place to see range and learn about his life chronologically across seven floors. Fun fact: it’s the most comprehensive single-artist museum in the world.

Judd Foundation
New York, NY, US • Marfa, TX, US
Our final visit is the Judd Foundation in two locations – New York and Marfa, Texas.
If you’re not familiar with Donald Judd, he’s an American Minimalist artist. He started out as a painter but in the early 1960s moved to working in 3D – creating simple, repeated forms that he refused to call sculpture.
In 1968, he bought a building where his works could be installed more permanently. You can find out more about 101 Spring Street and take a look at the works on view, or you can learn about his home and work spaces in Marfa, Texas. Judd chose this town for his public installations and family relocation “because it was the best looking and most practical”.
With Bloomberg Connects you can either explore all of these museums and galleries without travelling cross country, or onsite if you’re nearby. Which artist will you choose to get to know first?
